10 year kid in Chess Olympics

Sharanya Iyengar at the age of 10 got selected in Kenya's women's team which recently participated in Chess Olympics in Istanbul . Such selection is in itself surprising but still more surprising was her performance as she scored 6/10 points. Maximum for any player from Kenya. She won 4 games ( including one walk over ) and drew 4 games losing only 2 games. Though most of time they were playing lower boards but she got 4 FIDE rated opponents and scored 1.5 / 4 with rating performance of around 1650.

You can find some articles about her by clicking old entries at the bottom of page.

Budding Kids - Prabhanjan

Prabhanjan who is not yet 7 years old played in State Under - 11 tournament recently. Most of them were few years older and some of them already had FIDE ratings. But Prabhanjan played very well and scored 4 / 5 points ! Good effort by him. He finished fourth. He is improving quickly in spite of the fact that he rarely gets chance to play OTB chess and only playing chess on net.
If he gets chance to play regularly he is sure to become a strong player in his age group.
